The parliament has appointed new NBU governor

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has appointed Ihor Sorkin as governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU). The appointment was supported by 231 MPs. Upon a proposition of the President, his representative in the parliament Yurii Miroshnychenko has put forward the candidacy of Mr. Sorkin. The voting was conducted by shortened procedure, without discussion or questions to the candidate.

The opposition did its best to control whether MPs are voting personally. According to Arsenii Yatsenuik, the opposition is intended to form an investigation commission to prove illegal appointment of the NBU head, if they get facts that MPs were not voting personally.

"By the results of such voting we will not recognize the NBU head", - stated Oleh Tiahnybok.
